Welcome to Easingwold Rifle Club

Target shooting featured in the modern olympics in 1896 and has flourished ever since. It's popularity in this country grew as a result of the Boer War, the Boers' superior marksmanship kindling concerns at the Army's ability to defend the population in the event of an invasion. As a result, many smallbore shooting clubs were formed whose purpose was to enable the populace to learn to shoot in "defence of the Realm".

Since these early times civilian rifle clubs have developed and enjoyed a thoroughly absorbing sport. Nowadays individuals and clubs compete against each other in a wide range of both shoulder to shoulder and postal competitions. There is a constant thirst for accuracy and high scores, using paper targets.

Whether you are looking for a hobby that takes an odd evening a week or really do want to compete at the highest levels then target shooting could be for you.

The club caters for a wide range of abilities but has a common theme in that everyone wants to do better. Peer pressure is a great incentive!

All beginners are given the opportunity to learn the necessary skills under supervision, safety being paramount throughout the sport.

Target shooting is one of the few sports where males and females compete against each other on equal footing. Age is no bar to competition and even those with disabilities compete provided there is physical strength to hold a firearm safely.

The rifle club in Easingwold has been in existance for nearly 100 years, one of the club's founders, Mr. J Haxby Robinson, was also responsible for the building of the Galtres House in which he lived for many years. The present range is constructed in what was his private walled garden.

The club boasts some of the best facilities in the country having been the venue for the British Short Range Championships on two recent occasions.
